87 Gallery creates rich and meaningful experiences for young people

87 Gallery is a contemporary art gallery located at 87 Princes Avenue. They support artists to explore, make and show new work, and are passionate advocates of creative expression and visual culture.

The gallery is also very family-friendly and organises events where children can unleash their creativity.

Following on from a brilliant first term, 87 Gallery’s Explorers programme is gearing up for another round. The two groups (7-11 and 12-16) work closely with 87 Gallery’s Digital Engagement Producer and Curator, special guests, and artists involved with the Exhibition Programme to learn traditional and emergent processes.

In term 1, Explorers made a lot of new friends and worked with a guest artist to produce ceramics, created digital sculptures, used Adobe Fresco to create textural drawings, created and managed a social media channel, made monoprints, 3D scanned and digitally curated their artwork, and more.

Producer, Matt Fratson, says: “At 87 Gallery, it’s important for us to be able to create rich and meaningful experiences for young people, and Explorers is an opportunity for learning and discovery connected to our on-going contemporary arts programme.

“It’s been a privilege to introduce our young Explorers collectives to new techniques and ideas, and to artists and professionals working both in and outside of the city (including our own gallery staff) to deepen our understandings of how to access creative careers, and the wider contextual world of art and design.

“I’ve had an absolute blast with the kids so far, and I can’t wait for the next term to start!”

There’s limited availability for the groups, so if you would like to learn more about getting involved, please contact marketing@87gallery.co.uk. Find out more online at www.87gallery.co.uk/explorers and on Instagram: @weareat87 and @87galleryexplorers.
