Humber Rescue reunites owner with missing dog after 5-hour search

At 09:04, Humber Rescue received a heartfelt message from the owner of Red, a black Labrador who had gone missing near Faxfleet a couple of hours earlier.

Unfortunately, due to the way Humber REscue’s inbox is managed, the message was not seen immediately. Upon opening it at 10:50, a phone call was made to the owner, and following a short discussion, Humber Rescue advised them to also inform the Coastguard.

Humber Coastguard subsequently paged us, and a crew of four launched swiftly to the reported area. On arrival, the team coordinated with the owner and deployed a drone to aid in the search. Simultaneously, another Humber Rescue crew member made their way to the area around Faxfleet to support the search from land.

Thanks to teamwork and aerial support, Red was soon spotted deep in the thick reeds along the riverbank. A crew member was put ashore and made their way to the dog’s location. With the owner guiding in, Red was safely reunited with them and brought aboard the lifeboat.

The crew transported the owner and Red to Blacktoft, where they were met by a shore-based member. Thankfully, Red was unharmed and in good spirits, a happy ending to what could have been a very distressing morning.

The team stood down at 12:45.

Tom Collins, one of the crew members who responded to the callout and a dog owner himself, shared:

“This was a great outcome and we’re really thankful we were able to assist. As a fellow dog owner, I’ve got a red fox Labrador myself, I know how worrying a situation like this can be. We’re pleased to say both owner and dog are now safely back home.
