Homelessness charity Emmaus Hull & East Riding has launched an appeal for donations of food and household items to support people at their residential community home in Hull.

For their annual Harvest Festival Appeal, Emmaus is appealing for non-perishable food items and household essentials to replenish their kitchen cupboards and community stores. The charity needs donations of cereals, pasta, rice, tinned food, tea bags and coffee, along with toiletries, personal hygiene items and cleaning products.
Emmaus Hull & East Riding provides a home, tailored support, training and work opportunities to people who have experienced homelessness. The Orchard is the charity’s residential community in Hull which is home for up to 30 people at any one time.
Stephanie Dixon, Director of Emmaus Hull & East Riding, said: “If you count together breakfasts, lunches and dinners, our charity provides more than 30,000 meals a year to our Emmaus residents.
“The annual Harvest Festival Appeal is a great opportunity to support our charity and directly benefit the people we serve. We are extremely grateful for all the items we receive and very much welcome individuals, groups, schools and businesses collecting donations on our behalf.”
People supported at the Emmaus community in Hull are provided with opportunities to gain skills, training, confidence, and new experiences. In addition to their residential community, the charity also delivers an outreach service in the East Riding, providing direct support to people who are currently homeless.
Angie, one of the people supported by Emmaus, added: “Day to day, I enjoy helping in The Orchard, our community house, and in the kitchen there. I love going in the shops, on the till, serving people and helping with the sorting of donations and stock. Most of all, I enjoy the variety of different roles at Emmaus – using my skills in different areas and gaining new skills too.”
Emmaus is asking that any bags or boxes of donations are labelled ‘Harvest Festival Appeal’ and dropped off at The Orchard (32 Lockwood Street) or at any of their three charity shops in Hull.
