Farm run to support farmers’ wellbeing: Free places offered at new Yorkshire event

Curly’s Athletes are teaming up with their charity partner Fitmums & Friends and Bishop Burton College to bring the first ever Farm Run 10K to life – taking place on Sunday 28th September 2025.

More than 680 runners have already signed up for this unique road-running adventure, which starts and finishes in the stunning grounds of Bishop Burton College before heading out to nearby villages and closed country roads. Expect a big dose of farmyard fun… with sheep onesies at the ready!

But there’s also a serious side. Recent surveys have highlighted a growing health crisis among Yorkshire’s farmers: 42% experience stress and anxiety, and nearly a third struggle with sleep problems. Younger farmers are particularly at risk, with 95% of under-40s saying mental health is a concern. Farming life can be lonely, and opportunities to connect, get active, and take time out are often limited.

That’s why organisers are offering 20 free places to local farmers within a 20-mile radius of Bishop Burton. It’s a simple way to say thank you, open the gates to the local farming community, and highlight how events like this can support both physical and mental wellbeing.

“Farmers are the backbone of Yorkshire, but too often they face these challenges alone. By offering free places we want to give something back, create connections, and celebrate everything they do for our communities,” said Jonathan Frary from Curly’s Athletes.

With incredible facilities on site – from plentiful parking and toilets to the college’s beautiful setting – runners can look forward to a welcoming atmosphere and a memorable day out.

“At Fitmums & Friends we believe everyone deserves the chance to be active and feel part of a community, whether that’s new mums, people coping with life’s challenges, or farmers who often work in isolation. Partnering on the Farm Run is a wonderful way to extend that support to the farming community, reminding them they’re not alone and that taking time for themselves is just as important as the work they do for all of us,” said Sam Barlow, Founder and Chief Officer, Fitmums & Friends

This year’s run is just the beginning. As the event grows, organisers are keen to strengthen links with the farming community, exploring new ways the Farm Run can help support and connect those working the land.
