Soanes Poultry’s Higher Welfare Chicken has reached the final in the Best Sustainable Product category, and its Grain Fed whole chicken and wings have been shortlisted in the Best Fresh Meat category in what is regarded as the largest food and drink awards programme in the region.

“We’re proud of our commitment to sustainable chicken rearing and to producing chicken that tastes like chicken used to. We’re delighted to have come through the blind tasting round to reach the final in these awards, which celebrate the best of Yorkshire’s sustainable food and drink producers,” said Soanes Poultry’s MD, Ben Lee.

Head Judge, BBC Broadcaster and artisan food expert Nigel Barden said: “The categories in the Taste Awards look to highlight the very best of food and drink crafted, grown and served in the county, and boy did Yorkshire businesses come up trumps this year!

“Judging is a pleasure as we always uncover something new and innovative, but the standard this year has been incredibly high across the board, making the task that much harder.”

The other finalists in the Best Sustainable Product category are Sloemotion Distillery, The Milk Well and York Cocoa Works, and Fodder, Lishman’s and Warrendale Wagyu in the Best Fresh Meat category.

Winners will be announced at a dinner at the Pavilions of Harrogate on Tuesday, 4th November.

Soanes Poultry is a family-owned business which has been rearing and preparing chicken since 1947.
