Hull Women’s Aid celebrates 50 years with Big Give Fundraiser

Hull Women’s Aid is marking its 50th anniversary with a special fundraising campaign where every donation will be doubled at no extra cost through the Big Give, between 8th and 15th October.

The charity, which has supported women and children fleeing domestic abuse since 1975, is urging the Hull community to seize this opportunity to make twice the difference.

Domestic abuse remains a major issue in the city. Hull recorded 36.1 domestic abuse-related incidents per 1,000 people in 2023/24 – well above the national average of 27.1. Demand for refuge spaces and outreach support continues to rise, stretching services to their limits.

“Every pound donated during the Big Give campaign will be matched, meaning your support goes twice as far,” said Shaunagh Brook-McClean, fundraiser of Hull Women’s Aid. “It costs nothing extra for donors, but the impact for survivors of abuse is enormous. This campaign could transform the support we’re able to give in Hull.”

Funds raised will help Hull Women’s Aid to:

  • Support more survivors across Hull and East Yorkshire
  • Expand outreach and children’s services
  • Respond quickly to emergencies and urgent needs
  • Invest in staff training and wellbeing to sustain frontline care

For 50 years, Hull Women’s Aid has offered safe refuge, counselling, advocacy, and specialist children’s services, helping survivors of domestic abuse rebuild their lives. With the Big Give campaign, supporters have a unique chance to double their impact and secure these life-changing services for years to come.
