Magical Musicals on the way to Hull New Theatre

Hull New Theatre is delighted to announce two smash-hit musicals heading to Hull New Theatre next year.

Annie

First to the counter, delivering a slice of gorgeous pie, is musical comedy Waitress from 1-5 September 2026.

Based on Adrienne Shelley’s 2007 film of the same name, Waitress tells the story of Jenna, a waitress and expert pie-maker who dreams of being happy. When a hot new doctor arrives in town, life gets complicated. With the support of her workmates Becky and Dawn, Jenna overcomes the challenges she faces and finds that laughter, love and friendship can provide the perfect recipe for happiness.

This beautiful production with music and lyrics by GRAMMY award-winning, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, book by Jessie Nelson, and direction by Tony® Award-winner Diane Paulus celebrates friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.

Also championing friendship in the face of adversity is family favourite Annie from 8-13 September 2026 at Hull New Theatre.

Set in 1930s New York during The Great Depression, brave young Annie is forced to live a life of misery at Miss Hannigan’s orphanage. Her luck soon changes when she’s chosen to spend a fairytale Christmas with famous billionaire, Oliver Warbucks. Meanwhile, spiteful Miss Hannigan has other ideas and hatches a plan to spoil Annie’s search for her true family…

With its Tony® award-winning book and score, including the unforgettable songs It’s The Hard-Knock Life, Easy Street, I Don’t Need Anything But You and Tomorrow, you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll love it.
