Summit welcomed over 300 of the leading minds to collaborate on future of shared care records

The Shared Care Record Summit returned for its third year yesterday, Wednesday 29th October 2025, at the ICC Birmingham.

This year’s sell-out Summit brought together 300 health and social care leaders, patients and suppliers to explore the progress and future of shared care records.

The event opened with a welcome from the hosts and quickly led into a poignant insight from the parent of a patient, who shared their own lived experience and journey through healthcare. From there, the day showcased a diverse mix of national speakers, workshops and interactive sessions.

From an international standpoint, Professor Henrique Martins joined the event from Lisbon, to provide an overview of the European Health Data Space. And Kate Ebrill joined the event in Birmingham all the way from Australia, to provide insights from Australia’s SPARKED programme.

Senior representatives from UK Military Health also shared their experience of interoperability in military healthcare, while case studies closer to home covered insights from the National Record Locator (NRL), Artificial Intelligence and much more.

Workshops and interactive elements of the event drew upon the creativity of attendees, including workshops titled ‘Are We Fit for the Future?’ and ‘What Does Success Look Like and How Can We Measure It?’ and a Hackathon activity led by Andy Meiner, Co-Chair openEHR UK. A term which describes a time-limited and often intensive activity whereby its participants aim to problem solve and create prototypes.

The day concluded with an insightful summary of learnings from the day and reflections on how digital health and social care representatives from across the country can work together, and with partners and suppliers, to improve the patient and staff experience.

The event was supported by an impressive range of sponsors who make these events possible. Thank you to Better Health, Orion, Intersystems, Oracle, Graphnet, Apira, SmartCo, Synanetics, EY and Restart Consulting for their support.

Lee Rickles, Programme Director for Interweave, summed up the day by sharing, “Bringing together the leading voices in shared care records to collaborate on such a scale is undeniably helping to strengthen the foundations we’re building for the future. It’s a privilege to be part of this ongoing journey and to share a collective vision for how shared care records will continue to transform health and social care. My thanks to everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.”
