Two Ridings and The Randal Foundation unite to tackle poverty and inequality in Hull

Hull is a city with grit, heart, and resilience. It’s a place where neighbours still look out for one another, where community groups spring up to fill gaps, and where people turn shared struggle into shared strength. Now, those groups are getting a boost with fresh funding to tackle poverty and inequality.

Two Ridings Community Foundation and The Randal Foundation have joined forces to launch The Randal Foundation Fund, bringing fresh funding to the grassroots organisations working every day to make Hull a fairer, healthier, and more hopeful place to live.

Dr Kotecha, Chairman and Founder of The Randal Foundation, said: “The Randal Foundation is delighted to support Two Ridings Community Foundation and their invaluable work with grassroots charities. Across Hull, Two Ridings play a vital role in identifying small, community-led charities and organisations that make a real difference to people’s lives.

“Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen collective efforts to support local groups tackling some of the most pressing challenges, from poverty and mental health to education and opportunity, helping to create lasting, positive change across communities, with each grant made.”

The new Randal Foundation Fund will offer grants of up to £3,000 to small community groups with annual incomes under £50,000.

Funding will focus on three key areas:

  • Lifting people out of poverty
  • Supporting mental wellbeing
  • Expanding educational opportunity

“These small, flexible grants are designed for the groups closest to the ground. The local groups that know their neighbours, understand their community’s strengths, and act quickly to help hope take root and significantly improve lives.” Says Celia McKeon, CEO at Two Ridings Community Foundation.

Since 2017, The Randal Foundation has funded projects that have improved the lives of more than 145,000 people, with a bold goal of helping 1 million people in the UK and globally.

Pickering Road Community Orchard and Rhema Counselling & Recovery Services are just two Hull organisations that have already felt the impact of Two Ridings’ funding and support through the Hull Community Fund.

“Previous grants from Two Ridings Community Foundation have helped us increase capacity and build better foundations for future community-focused work. We’ve been able to expand our grassroots projects and bring together people from all walks of life, from refugees and home educators to students on a local school’s alternative curriculum and those with learning disabilities. With opportunities like this new fund, we could keep growing that impact,” says Rosie Ireson from Pickering Road Community Orchard.
