A Hull headquartered construction firm has continued to strengthen its presence in the education and community sectors, delivering a diverse portfolio of projects via its specialist minor works division, together worth over £5 million across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire in recent months.
Hobson & Porter has successfully completed more than a dozen schemes for schools, local authorities, and community organisations, ranging from new-build extensions and specialist facilities to refurbishment and decarbonisation works.
Education remains a key focus area for the firm, with significant progress on projects that enhance learning environments and support inclusive education. At Cambridge Park Academy in Grimsby, a £1.2m sixth form extension was recently handed over, providing modern spaces for post-16 learners with special educational needs (SEND). In York, work is advancing on the £1.4m extension of St Paul’s Nursery School, with structural elements now in place and completion scheduled for early next year.
Additional projects include upgrades at Baysgarth School in North East Lincolnshire, Hornsea Primary School in East Yorkshire, and Applefields School in North Yorkshire. These schemes have delivered classroom refurbishments, improved facilities, and specialist SEND provisions, including a hydrotherapy pool at Applefields School, to support pupils with complex needs.
Beyond education, Hobson & Porter has delivered housing and community improvements through frameworks such as the East Riding of Yorkshire Council Decarbonisation and Stock Works programme. Recent works include property refurbishments in Beverley and Withernsea, with further structural upgrades and energy efficiency improvements underway. The team is also progressing Hull City council-backed refurbishments at Parks Family Hub in Hull and residential upgrades for children’s housing on Elgar Road.
In the heritage sector, Hobson & Porter is nearing completion of the second phase of works at the National Holocaust Museum in Newark, following a major £5m renovation. Current works include timber frame installation for an extension and improved accessibility features, building on the extensive structural and internal reconfiguration delivered in phase one.
