Lincolnshire and Yorkshire construction company, Hobson & Porter has completed a significant extension project at Cambridge Park Sixth Form College in Grimsby – marking a major milestone in improving educational facilities for young people with special educational needs (SEN) in North East Lincolnshire.

The £1.4m development, commissioned by North East Lincolnshire Council, forms part of the local authority’s wider sufficiency strategy for SEN and alternative provision. The newly completed extension almost doubles the size of the college, allowing it to accommodate up to 28 pupils aged between 14 and 19 years old, alongside 24 staff members.
The project, which has successfully been handed over, delivered a new single-storey extension featuring modern, energy-efficient facilities including air source heat pumps, underfloor heating and 88 roof-mounted solar panels. Externally, the project includes additional car parking with electric vehicle charging points, a new drop-off zone, an improved entrance road and landscaped outdoor learning areas equipped with specialist play and sensory equipment.
Hobson & Porter has a strong reputation for delivering educational projects across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. The completion of the Cambridge Park project further cements its ongoing partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council.
Joe Booth from Hobson & Porter, said: “It’s been a privilege to deliver another transformative educational project in Grimsby. This new extension provides fabulous facilities that will make a real difference to students, staff and families. Our team takes great pride in working on projects that create lasting social value, and Cambridge Park is a fantastic example of that commitment. We are also particularly proud of our talented joinery team, who pulled out all the stops to fit what were very large and complex roof trusses.”
This extension will enable more local pupils with special educational needs to access high-quality education within their community, reducing the need for long-distance travel to alternative settings.
Principal, Mr S. Kernan, from Cambridge Park Academy, said: “We are absolutely delighted with the new facilities. This extension represents far more than just a building – it’s a space that will enhance learning, independence and opportunity for our students. Hobson & Porter has been fantastic throughout the process, ensuring that the finished result meets the specific needs of our young people. It’s a proud moment for everyone involved.”
This project is one of several education developments currently being delivered by Hobson & Porter across North East Lincolnshire, including building two new primary schools in Scartho and Waltham which have both recently opened to pupils.
