Ganton School is celebrating a remarkable milestone after being awarded its fifth International School Award by the British Council, recognising the school’s long-standing dedication to global learning, cultural exchange and international partnership.

The International School Award acknowledges schools that embed international awareness across their curriculum, providing meaningful global learning experiences for pupils of all abilities. For Ganton, this commitment has been shaped significantly by its longstanding partnership with Victor Duruy School in Paris.
In March 2024, the school welcomed staff and pupils from Victor Duruy School for a week-long programme of activities linked to the Paralympics and Special Olympics, ahead of the Paris Olympic Games. The visit was described as inspiring and uplifting by both partner schools.
In May 2025, Ganton pupils and staff travelled to Paris for a reciprocal visit, taking part in creative and cultural workshops, enjoying traditional French cuisine and exploring world-famous landmarks including the Eiffel Tower. A river cruise and a magical trip to Disneyland Paris added further excitement to the experience. These exchanges continue to enrich the curriculum and strengthen the deep connection between the two communities.
Last week, Ganton’s International Schools Lead, Rachael Monday, attended a special celebration event at the Houses of Parliament to receive the award on behalf of the school. Reflecting on the achievement, Rachael said:
“I was honoured to attend the Houses of Parliament to receive our fifth International School Award, a moment that reflects years of commitment to global learning across our community. At Ganton, international education is not an add-on, but a thread woven through our curriculum. These experiences help us recognise and celebrate the diverse heritage of our students, strengthening understanding and belonging. Over the past seven years, our partnership with a mainstream school in Paris has enriched this work even further and together we have completed numerous joint projects. Each collaboration has strengthened our shared vision and broadened horizons for everyone involved.”
Headteacher Alec Young praised the achievement and highlighted what this recognition means for the school community:
“This award reflects the vibrant, energetic collaboration at the heart of our Ganton community. Our partnerships between pupils, staff, families and international friends ensure that we are always learning from one another and working together to improve outcomes for all those affected by learning difficulties and disabilities.
Our commitment to a broad, balanced and exciting curriculum ensures that every pupil, regardless of need or ability, can access high-quality teaching and achieve their full potential. The International School Award celebrates that shared vision and we are immensely proud of it.
I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to our incredible staff team and to the wider Ganton community, whose dedication, enthusiasm and belief in our pupils make achievements like this possible. Their ongoing support enriches every aspect of school life and strengthens the relationships that define who we are.”
Ganton School extends its thanks to everyone who has contributed to this achievement. Five International School Awards represent years of dedication and a powerful belief in the value of global citizenship. Congratulations to the entire Ganton community on this outstanding accomplishment.
