East Riding of Yorkshire Council planning officers have approved plans from Sewell on the go for a modern roadside development to include a new convenience store, petrol forecourt and EV charging station on Swinemoor Lane in Beverley.
The site of the former Evans Halshaw showroom, located next to Wickes, will be transformed into a vibrant convenience store, creating jobs and providing a new facility for people in the local area, which will be open 24/7. The site will also include much needed electric vehicle charging points that will improve Beverley’s infrastructure.
The company behind the development, Sewell on the go, is a local family-owned business that operates 12 convenience stores and petrol stations across Hull and East Yorkshire. As part of the Sewell Group, it is celebrating 150 years in business this year and is well known for giving back to local communities, for which it was recognised in the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity in 2021.

Plans include:
- A modern new convenience store with a farm shop feel, stocking high quality food to go, Co-op products and local produce
- Petrol pumps and several EV charge points
- A car wash and valeting facilities
- A new entrance and pedestrian crossing
The new store will replace its existing site on Holme Church Lane with a more energy efficient and modern facility, and works are expected to begin in the Summer.
