A towering orchestral masterpiece will provide a magnificent climax to the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra’s Vive la Musique concert this month.

Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3, (the Organ Symphony), is a highlight of the French-themed performance at Hull City Hall on 28th February. Famed for its monumental finale, the piece is considered to have one of the most explosive conclusions in nineteenth-century music. Also well-known as the theme music used in Walt Disney’s 1995 film Babe, it features the full might of Hull City Hall’s historic organ to create a compelling live experience.
It is the second event in the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2025/26 season, with a programme that brings together iconic works showcasing the richness of French classical music, transporting audiences to the heart of Parisian concert halls.
Under the baton of musical director Simon Chalk, concert goers will also experience the hypnotic build of Ravel’s Boléro, composed as a long, uninterrupted crescendo, building to an intense climax. The vibrancy of Berlioz’ Carnaval Romain and the elegance of Delibes’ Ballet Suite from Sylvia completes the popular programme.
Simon Chalk said that he was looking forward to thrilling regular supporters and newcomers alike. “This concert includes some of the ‘titans’ of French music,” he said.
“Alongside the spectacle of the Saint-Saens, our audience will experience a musical journey that will take them to Rome with Berlioz, to the ballet with Delibes, and to the 1984 Winter Olympics with Ravel, for those who remember the iconic Torvill and Dean performance.
“The concert culminates with arguably one of the greatest symphonies ever written, so what’s not to like. If you are new to the Hull Phil then please, please don’t be shy and join us as we strive to bring you the friendliest concert experience you could ever imagine!”
Highly regarded for its dynamic performances and commitment to musical excellence, the Hull Philharmonic Orchestra continues to build its foundation of loyal support. Vive la Musique reflects the orchestra’s dedication to presenting engaging and inspiring programmes.
