Ground-breaking projects driving secure energy production are being backed by up to £30 million.

The government has confirmed that Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority and Tees Valley Combined Authority are to receive funding through the Local Innovation Partnerships Fund.
Funding will support an energy production and industrial resilience programme that brings together the strengths and opportunities across Hull, East Yorkshire and Teesside.
Building on major ports, Freeport status and world-leading energy infrastructure, the programme will help businesses turn technologies like carbon capture, hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel into real-world projects.
This will support large projects, new manufacturing, skills development and supply chain growth – helping to attract private investment and create high-quality jobs.
Liz Kendall, Liz Kendall UK Science and Technology Secretary, said: “It is a tribute to the pioneering spirit in every corner of our country that we are backing nations and regions across the UK to advance innovation in everything from defence to AI and clean energy to space tech.
“Across East Yorkshire, Hull and Tees Valley, the funding will back clean energy innovation, building on these regions’ industrial strengths to support jobs and growth. By working with local leaders, researchers, and businesses, we can unleash transformational research and products that improve lives.”
Professor Sir Ian Chapman, Chief Executive of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), said: “Tees Valley, Hull and East Yorkshire have long been home to world class ingenuity and a proud tradition of delivering real impact from great ideas. UKRI is delighted to work with Hull and East Yorkshire and Tees Valley as they accelerate bold plans to build on that legacy and drive the region’s next wave of innovation led growth.
“By bringing together the region’s researchers, entrepreneurs and civic leaders, we are strengthening East Yorkshire and Tees Valley’s distinctive capabilities and championing its ambition on the national stage. This major investment will unlock new opportunities, boost productivity and create the high skilled jobs of the future. We’re excited at the prospect of achieving that together.”
Hull and East Yorkshire Combined Authority is working in partnership with industry and academic partners, including the University of Hull, Humber Energy Board, Humber Freeport and CATCH UK.
Local partners in Hull and East Yorkshire and Tees Valley will now work together with UKRI to design projects that target this investment, building on the existing local strengths of both regions.
The Local Innovation Partnerships Fund is operated by UKRI, bringing together local government, businesses and research organisations. It helps them use local strengths to develop practical ideas that boost jobs and improve everyday lives.
This funding forms part of the record £86 billion research and development settlement until 2030 and represents a key pillar of the government’s modern Industrial Strategy, supporting high-growth sectors in every region.
