Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust has appointed Sewell Facilities Management (FM) to carry out planned preventative maintenance and on-call repairs for all the Trust’s facilities across Yorkshire, including ambulance stations, offices and call centres.

The five-year contract will see Sewell FM helping to keep Yorkshire Ambulance Service’s estate in good repair, safe and compliant, ensuring that any issues with buildings are resolved quickly and there is minimal impact on continuing to provide emergency and urgent care services to patients around the region.

Yorkshire Ambulance Service covers nearly 6,000 square miles, serving a population of over five million people across Yorkshire and the Humber. Employing 7,200 staff at over 100 sites, they provide emergency and urgent care services around the clock.

Sewell FM’s team of skilled electricians, gas engineers and maintenance technicians will maintain all Yorkshire Ambulance Service’s buildings, including heating and ventilation systems, plumbing, fire safety, water hygiene, and critical systems such as generators. As well as ensuring systems are maintained and compliant with safety regulations, Sewell FM will also provide a 24/7 call-out service to ensure that any issues with the ambulance service’s buildings are fixed quickly, so it doesn’t impact on their operations.

Steve Waters, Head of Estates and Facilities at Yorkshire Ambulance Service, said: “As a 24/7 emergency service, it’s vital that our buildings are in good working order for staff to carry out their roles safely and effectively whether they are based in a call centre or start and finish their shifts at an ambulance station. We’re delighted to be working with the Sewell FM team over the next five years.”

Tom Farrow, director at Sewell Facilities Management, said: “The team at Yorkshire Ambulance Service does a fantastic job, going above and beyond every day to care for people across the region. We’re proud to be given this opportunity to work with them, ensuring that their buildings are always fit for purpose so their staff don’t have to worry about building issues preventing them from responding to patients.”
