Anarchy on Humber Street as Hull musicians stage alternative King’s Birthday Punk Party

While official birthday celebrations take place around the country, Hull’s Humber Street will be hosting a very different kind of party on Saturday 20th June.

Freak Scene: God Save The King Punk Party arrives at Social for an evening dedicated to the songs that made punk one of Britain’s most disruptive and enduring cultural movements.

Featuring members of Hull band favourites, including The Paddingtons, Rothco and Fire (The Unstoppable Force), the night will see a live band perform two full sets of punk classics spanning both sides of the Atlantic.

Expect songs from legendary acts including Sex Pistols, The Clash, Buzzcocks, Blondie, Ramones, Television and more, celebrating the records that challenged authority, inspired generations of musicians and helped redefine popular music.

Organisers Social describe the event as a tongue-in-cheek alternative to traditional royal birthday celebrations, embracing punk’s anti-establishment spirit while shining a spotlight on the songs that continue to unite music fans decades after their release. The event continues Freak Scene’s tradition of bringing together musicians from across the city’s music scene for unique themed celebrations of iconic artists and genres.

But the party doesn’t stop when the band leaves the stage. Freak Scene DJs will keep the energy high throughout the evening, spinning a mix of punk, post-punk, new wave and alternative classics, before an afterparty carries the celebrations late into the night.

More than four decades after punk first exploded across Britain, the influence of bands like Sex Pistols, The Clash and Buzzcocks continues to resonate throughout independent music, with their songs remaining as powerful, relevant and exhilarating as ever.

“These songs were built to be played loud and sung along to,” says Damien Greco, Marketing Manager at Social. “Whether you grew up with them or discovered them years later, they still have the power to bring people together. This isn’t about nostalgia—it’s about celebrating some of the greatest and most influential songs ever written.”

With live music, DJs, an afterparty and a setlist packed with punk’s most iconic anthems, Freak Scene: God Save The King Punk Party promises to offer Hull music fans a memorable alternative to the official celebrations.
