Hull charity receives key funding boost from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation

A local charity, which offers a safe space for local women and their children, has received a funding boost after being nominated by colleagues of the Yorkshire Building Society branch in Hull.

Purple House has been awarded £2,500 from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation, which will help the charity maintain its emergency fund that helps to purchase essential items for women and children using the service.

Purple House—officially known as Winner, the Preston Road Women’s Centre—is a women-led organisation supporting women and children, by offering a range of services which are designed to help them rebuild their lives after being affected by domestic abuse.

Based in its purple building on Preston Road in Hull, they provide wraparound services that promote wellbeing, safety, recovery and independence. This support is offered through domestic abuse services, safe housing, affordable legal advice, nursery provision, training and courses, a girls’ youth club, and volunteering opportunities.

The charity was nominated for the grant because it is a local cause, and branch colleagues are keen to help raise awareness of the great work it does for the local community.

Nikki Clarke, customer consultant at Yorkshire Building Society in Hull City Centre said: “We’re proud to support Purple House through this donation from Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation. The charity’s work is vital for people in the Hull community, and this funding will help them continue providing essential support to those who need it most.”

Lisa Hilder MBE, trustee of the charity said: We are delighted to receive this grant from Yorkshire Building Society, which will help us to help women and children rebuild their lives in a new home, with our support. Donations like this make a real practical difference to the lives of women and children who have experienced domestic abuse.”

Yorkshire Building Society Charitable Foundation is funded through the Small Change Big Difference® scheme, where members donate the pennies from the annual interest on their accounts. These pooled contributions enable the Foundation to support smaller charities across the UK.

Since its launch in 1999, the Foundation has donated over £10 million to local charities and good causes across the UK.
