Yorkshire bread maker, Luke’s Bakery, has received national recognition for its sourdough in the 2026 Britain’s Best Loaf Competition.

Luke’s Bakery, based in Brough, East Yorkshire, was awarded two medals in its first year of entering – silver for its Malted Granary Sourdough and bronze for its White Sourdough.
The annual Britain’s Best Loaf competition, run by British Baker magazine, recognises the expertise, dedication and skill of the nation’s bread makers, with medal winners ‘among the very best the industry has to offer’. All loaves entered are evaluated by a panel of expert judges from across the baking industry and assessed on their external appearance, internal structure, technical execution, aroma and taste. 2026 saw a record number of entrants in the competition.
Luke’s two winning medals are the latest in a rising batch of awards for its popular range of sourdoughs, which are all slow-proved and baked fresh in East Yorkshire from top quality, local ingredients.
The Bakery now boasts a handful of Great Taste and Deliciously Yorkshire awards and was named the winner of the ‘Local Producer’ gong at the Remarkable East Yorkshire Tourism Awards at the end of the 2025.
Luke Jenneson, Founder and Director of Luke’s Bakery says:
“We are over the moon to have been awarded two medals in the prestigious Britain’s Best Loaf competition. As a proud Yorkshire bakery, it means a lot to us to have gained national recognition for our loaves, competing with reputable bread makers across the country.
“When I left a career in banking in 2021 to develop my signature sourdough recipes, I could never have imagined that five years later we’d be an award-winning business. Our mission was always to bake the best bread in the North, so to now be named among ‘Britain’s Best Loaves’ is a dream come true!
“These wins are a testament to the hard work and dedication of my team, I’m so grateful to them and excited for everything we have planned for the second half of this year.”
Amy North, Editor of British Baker Magazine adds:
“Securing two medals at Britain’s Best Loaf is a huge achievement, particularly as all loaves in the competition are judged blind meaning our expert panel of judges don’t know which bakery made them. The quality of these loaves really is testament to the hard work of Luke and the team at Luke’s Bakery.
“Luke was a finalist in the Rising Star Award category at the 2025 Baking Industry Awards, and it’s great to see that he is living up to his mission to shake up the local bakery scene one sourdough at a time.”
