Leading holiday home manufacturer Willerby has brought colleagues and suppliers together for a charity golf day to raise funds for two vital charities.
Held at Burstwick Golf Club in East Yorkshire, the day was part of a series of events and activities marking Willerby’s 80th anniversary year.
Employees teed off alongside representatives from businesses across Hull-based Willerby’s supply chain, raising over £2,000 for the company’s charities of the year, Dove House Hospice and Hull and East Yorkshire (HEY) Children’s University.
Willerby CEO Peter Munk said: “The golf day fits perfectly with our 80th anniversary celebrations and gives our employees and suppliers an opportunity to come together while raising money for our two chosen charities.
“We’ve had fantastic support from our suppliers this year, both from those playing and those sponsoring the day.
“No business can succeed without the support and commitment of its employees, customers and suppliers, so bringing people together like this is really important to us. The support we’ve had says a great deal about the relationships we have with our suppliers and about the industry as a whole.”
The annual golf day has been a popular fixture among Willerby employees for a number of years, but was expanded to involve more of the company’s suppliers and ultimately raise even more money for the important causes.
All available sponsorship packages for the event were snapped up, with suppliers backing different elements of the day, including refreshments, prizes and goodie bags, helping to maximise the amount raised for the two charities.
Rob Pryde, Product Design Manager at Willerby, was part of the organising team for the event and was also a member of the team which clinched first place on the day.
He said: “The golf day has always been popular with colleagues, but this year we wanted to make it bigger and open it up to more of our suppliers. The response has been brilliant and it’s been great to see so many people get behind it.
“Days like this give colleagues who might not normally spend much time together the chance to get to know each other, and having our suppliers here adds another dimension.
“There’s always plenty of friendly competition and bragging rights afterwards, but ultimately, we’re all here to enjoy the day and raise money for two very worthwhile local charities.”
Among the suppliers supporting the event was Solar Fabrications, which supplies windows and doors to Willerby, and sponsored the goodie bags for the event.
Solar Fabrications Managing Director Gareth Jones said: “We’re a relatively new supplier to Willerby, but it has already become a very important relationship for our business, so we were very happy to support the day and get involved as a sponsor.
“Events like this are a great opportunity to meet people from other parts of the supply chain who we wouldn’t ordinarily come across. There are so many different products and businesses involved in producing a holiday home, so it’s good to get that wider perspective while supporting two worthwhile charities.
“We know how challenging things can be for the charity sector, so we’re always keen to support the causes that are important to our key partners.”
Alongside Solar Fabrications, other suppliers which generously supported the day included 43 Clicks North, ALKO, Broadsword UK Limited, City Plumbing, Domapp, Hanson Plywood Ltd and Sycamore Lighting Ltd.
The golf day is one of a number of events taking place during Willerby’s 80th anniversary year, to support the two charities including events involving employees and industry partners.
Dove House Hospice provides specialist care and support for adults with life-limiting illnesses across Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire, as well as supporting their families.
HEY Children’s University works with children growing up in disadvantaged areas of Hull and East Yorkshire, providing experiences that broaden horizons and raise aspirations.
