New project celebrates Hull’s fishing heritage and migrant food cultures

Hull’s fishing heritage and the food traditions of its migrant communities will come together in a new project launching this October.

Organised by BAMEEN, Hull Fishing Heritage & Migrant Cultural Food: A Culinary and Cultural Journey will launch at Welcome House, 3 Wright Street, Hull, HU2 8HU, on Saturday 17th October 2026, 2pm-5pm. Everyone is welcome.

The project will explore the rich food cultures that have shaped Hull, bringing people together to share their experiences and discover connections between people, place and the environment.

Under the theme “Different journeys. Shared stories. One Hull.”, BAMEEN is inviting residents to contribute oral histories, memories, recipes and photographs reflecting their family traditions, communities and heritage.

There will also be opportunities to take part in events and workshops, meet others and volunteer to support the project.

Whether you have a connection to Hull’s fishing industry, a treasured family recipe or a story about making the city your home, the project offers an opportunity to contribute to a shared celebration of Hull’s history and cultural diversity.
