Let’s give Karl a Hull welcome home

Residents and visitors are encouraged to gather in Queen Victoria Square to welcome home Hull-born Karl Bushby as he completes the final leg of his intrepid 28-year walk around the world.

Monday 2nd November, from 10am, Queen Victoria Square, HULL, HU1 3RQ

Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Maria Coward invites residents and visitors to join her in welcoming Karl back to the city.  On the final leg of his journey (and penultimate stop-off in the city centre before he continues home) Karl will make his way into Queen Victoria Square.

Lord Mayor of Kingston upon Hull and Admiral of the Humber, Councillor Maria Coward, said: “So many people have followed Karl on his epic journey. We have all felt inspired by his spirit, tenacity and dogged determination to carry on in challenges faced by the most fearless of explorers.  We all share pride in his incredible achievement.

“We also know what it’s like to come home to Hull, that feeling as your car or train, or feet in Karl’s case, crosses or goes under the Humber Bridge and over the city boundary.  As the world’s media and documentary crews gather in our city we can show them how proud we are of Karl’s achievement and how proud we are to be from Hull.”

The route: Karl will make his way eastwards into Hull city centre into Queen Victoria Square. His arrival is anticipated for 11:00 but times may vary.

Upon arrival into Queen Victoria Square, Karl will be welcomed into the square by the Hull Volunteers.  The Lord Mayor will welcome Karl briefly onto a stage area at the front of the city hall. A brief private reception in the city hall will follow. Karl will then recommence the very final leg of his journey northwards to his family home, ending his legendary journey back to Hull.
