All-singing, all-dancing Beverley theatre group supports local families with a brand new version of their hit show

Back by popular demand after sell-out runs in 2015 and 2018, She Productions returns to East Riding Theatre with Beverley Does Broadway. Think West End showbiz, delicious harmonies, and bags of talent in this brand new 2022 version running from 1-9 July.

She Productions’ summer musical includes a Parent and Baby performance and raises funds for an affordable family Christmas tour.

With classic favourites from My Fair Lady and Chicago, catchy hits from Hairspray and Netflix-famous Tick Tick Boom! everyone can enjoy some of the world’s most popular show-tunes, including parents and their babies. The company will be hosting a ‘parent and baby’ performance of the show on Thursday 7 July at 11am, but this is not a show for kids.

She Productions’ Co-Artistic Director Jessica Duffield, who has recently returned from maternity leave herself, said: “Having experienced first-hand how going to the theatre can be inaccessible with a newborn, I think it’s so important to give parents the opportunity to enjoy theatre with their baby. As a new parent, many activities that are taken for granted in life prior to parenthood are suddenly impossible, and so providing a relaxed environment where babies can make a noise, move around, be fed and taken in and out as needed, means that everyone can relax and enjoy the show. It’s also a great chance to introduce theatre from an early age!”

The theatre company, a registered charity, is using this limited run to raise much-needed funds for future projects, namely their renowned original family musicals. She Productions is dedicated to producing high-quality shows at low-cost ticket prices for young people to enjoy, and so buying a ticket for Beverley Does Broadway helps the company continue their inclusive work.

Their next family production will tour East Riding Libraries this Christmas, including Beverley, Cottingham, Withernsea and Bridlington. Producer Annie Kirkman said: “Especially with the way the world is at the moment, disposable income is not something everybody has, even more so at Christmas, but we want all young people to have access to our shows, which is why this fundraiser is so important.”

Beverley Does Broadway was She Productions’ inaugural show, performed on a shoestring as a fundraiser for their first ever children’s musical seven years ago. Now the company has grown in reputation and strength and they are thrilled to be able to revive this musical cabaret with new script, songs and a creative team.

The company has partnered with local dance schools Inspire and Fleur Elizabeth Academy to provide Saturday night ‘Curtain Raisers’, where students from the respective schools will open the show with a musical number. Fleur Stevenson of Fleur Elizabeth School of Dance will also be choreographing the professional cast in a few of the songs and Natalie Walker will be joining the cast on-stage as Musical Director.

Not only will you receive a night of pure, comedic, musical entertainment but, when you invest in a ticket for Beverley Does Broadway, you also ensure that local families will experience brilliant theatre this Christmas.

Beverley Does Broadway 2022 runs from Friday 1 – Saturday 9 July at 7:30pm at East Riding Theatre. The Parent and Baby performance is at 11am on Thursday 7 July. A matinee performance is at 2:30pm on Saturday 9 July.
