This year’s fundraising figure amounting to £17,014 is the highest sum Hull-based safety specialist Arco has raised for Macmillan Coffee Mornings.
The record figure could help run the Macmillan Online Community for 326 hours, giving 244,500 people affected by cancer the emotional and practical support they need. The final figure lifts the total amount Arco has raised to £196,478 in the 15 years the company has supported the coffee morning initiative.
Macmillan’s Coffee Morning event was expected to see an income drop of £20m this year – the lowest amount in 11 years. It was feared that a decline that substantial could result in more than 80,000 cancer patients missing out on crucial support from a Macmillan nurse in 2021. Therefore, it was vital for Arco to ensure its employees, suppliers and Community Panel to still get involved with the Macmillan Coffee Morning in the ‘new normal’.
Karen Narey, Campaign Manager for Arco, said: “It’s heartbreaking that people who have cancer have been unintentionally left behind as COVID-19 has taken priority this year. But this year’s record figure is a symbol of hope, not despair. I want to thank everyone at Arco for getting involved to raise money for this great cause, despite the challenges of virtual fundraising. We’re so pleased to know our collective efforts can help nurses, families and patients get the support they need.”
This year, Arco’s fundraising looked a little different. The activities launched with a video message from Becky Read, the Regional Fundraising Manager for Macmillan, to provide an overview of the fantastic work Macmillan does, and how the money is spent. During September, Arco teams from across the business hosted virtual events, from coffee mornings to quizzes, to help raise the much-needed money for a great cause. The main fundraising event was the Arco Macmillan Raffle which gained colossal company engagement and ticket sales, and was streamed live to colleagues nationwide on the 25th of September. Arco is delighted with the continued support from its suppliers, who donated a generous 63 prizes from experience days to hampers.
Arco’s record fundraising announcement for Macmillan falls at a crucial time as almost 2.5million patients missed out on cancer screening, referrals, or treatment during the COVID-19 lockdown. Arco is grateful for the opportunity to help Macmillan Cancer Support and those who need aid during this testing time.
