Travelling to different community venues around the city, they’re all about bringing people together, combatting isolation and, most importantly, having a right good knees-up.

Thursday 2 June, 1-4pm, will see the biggest Back to Ours Shindig yet taking place in a Big Top in Heartlands Park, Bransholme. Part of the May half-term circus week that’ll see three amazing shows entertaining families, the Big Jubilee Shindig has been funded through Arts Council England’s Let’s Create Jubilee Fund.Back to Ours Director Louise Yates says:

“We just love a Shindig.

“They’re so much fun and we’re really looking forward to seeing people out enjoying themselves. It’s been such a difficult couple of years, and we’re all about bringing people together to celebrate, dance, chat and have a real good laugh.

“It’s a special event so we’ll be hanging out the bunting, getting our crowns on, and getting ready to party.”Local resident Margaret Varnham adds:

“The Shindigs are great. I like meeting people and having a good laugh and dancing, and the food’s really good. I’ve seen a lot of different acts, but my favourite so far has been Cris Quammie’s Soul Sensation – I love dancing to Motown.”

Sounds like it might be up your street? The Big Jubilee Shindig’s free – though it has to be booked in advance – and the team are asking people to think of someone they know who’d enjoy a good afternoon out. It might be a neighbour or a family member who hasn’t been able to get out much, a friend who needs cheering up, or a few of you who fancy a proper party together.
