Beats Bus youngsters take centre stage in dance-circus workshop at Hull New Theatre

A group of young people from Hull’s renowned Beats Bus project will take part in a groundbreaking dance-circus skills workshop at Hull New Theatre on Saturday 18th October.

The beginner’s workshop for those aged 6-18 will be delivered by members of the internationally acclaimed Cirque Éloize company who are in the city ahead of their explosive new show iD:Reloaded, which hits the Hull New Theatre stage on 17 and 18 October.

The performance and workshop form part of Hull Theatres’ ongoing partnership with Dance Consortium, a group of 23 large-scale venues whose mission is to engage people across the UK and Ireland with the very best international contemporary dance.

Claire Elsdon, Theatres and Hall Manager at Hull Theatres said: “We’re proud to welcome Cirque Éloize to Hull New Theatre and thrilled to be able to offer our local youngsters this opportunity to work with such a prestigious company. Through partnerships like this, we’re not just presenting world-class talent on our stages – we’re helping to unlock it in our own communities.”

Jeannot Painchaud, Artistic Director of Cirque Éloize, added: “We believe in the power of performance to connect, inspire and transform. Sharing our skills with young people in Hull is a real privilege – we hope it’s the start of a creative journey for many of them.”

However, the youngsters will also get the opportunity to turn the tables on the artists as the iconic Beats Bus makes a visit to the venue on Saturday 18th October between 11am and 1pm allowing them to showcase their skills to the Cirque Éloize company.

Steve Arnott, Director of Beats Bus, commented: “At Beats Bus, we give young people the tools to express themselves through the elements of hip-hop: breakdance, graffiti, MCing and DJing. This workshop brings something fresh and exciting into the mix – it’s another way to show the city, and the world, what young people in Hull have to offer.”
