Bransholme based GP, Dr Gabriel Hendow, has this week been named ‘GP of the Year’ in the coveted, national General Practice Awards 2018.
Nominated for his innovative approach to creating a healthier Hull Dr Hendow has established several in-house clinics, above and beyond what is normally offered by a GP, and which are designed to benefit patients’ including exercise classes and food clinics, 121 social prescribing and teenage health checks.
Speaking of the win, Dr Hendow said: “It is, of course, lovely to be recognised for the work I do; I’m dedicated to changing the lives of patients, that is always my number one priority rather than gaining recognition.”
“The win is a great testament to the team working at the practice; together we are valued by the local community and make a difference to patients’ day in, day out.”
Dr Hendow, a single-handed GP whose practice has been rated as Outstanding by the CQC, works tirelessly for patients, looking at not only medical and health issues but also social issues through the 121 social prescribing service offered at his practice and his HMS Hull Home Monitoring Service.
Dr Hendow added: “I’ve been a GP for 26 years – I really value having a family run practice for local families. I do my best to make sure patients are healthy and well, as well as have the support they need for issues which are not medical too.”
Dr Hendow’s practice serves approximately 2700 patients, with over 370 new patients registering in the past 2 years. Further to his work in Hull, Dr Hendow has also been instrumental in the development of national guidance around Tinnitus and the management Laryngo phargeal reflux disease.
Dr Hendow’s Practice Manager, Tina Cheyne, said of the win: “I’m incredibly proud of Dr Hendow to have won GP of the Year. The level of service Dr Hendow offers remains consistently high despite our growing practice list and he continues to push boundaries and implement new, innovative ways of working to benefit our patients young and old.”
