An award-winning restaurant will present the latest in its series of wine nights this week when it welcomes the return of a top sommelier all the way from Spain.

Alejandro van Lieshout, the brand ambassador and export manager for Casa Rojo. will make his second visit to 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar on Thursday 27 June to showcase the latest exclusive wines secured by the restaurant from suppliers Matthew Clark.

The special Casa Rojo evening will feature Musso de Casa Rojo Organic Cava, Musso de Casa Rojo Tempranillo Rosado, Musso de Casa Rojo Sauvignon Blanc, Enemigo Mio Jumilla Casa Rojo and MMM Macho Man Monastrel Jumilla Casa Rojo.

Jessica MacDougall, sales account manager at Matthew Clark, said: “It’s a rare opportunity to hear direct from Alejandro about the exceptional wines which are themselves hard to find in the UK.

“They’re certainly not available anywhere else in this region because exclusivity is a big thing for 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar. I’m expecting a lot of interest in the evening and we’re taking the opportunity to invite some of our customers.”

Guests will dine on a starter of cured meats and Mahon cheese with garlic, paprika and rosemary bread, mixed spice nuts, olives and gazpacho followed by dressed crab with sweet chilli and chives, clams in white wine, chilies, onion and dill and a salad of apple. Raspberry and pomegranate.

The meat course will comprise five-spiced lamb and chorizo skewers, Canary Island wrinkled potatoes with a spicy sauce and chef’s mixed greens. Dessert is tarta de Santiago with a citrus Chantilly cream.

Deborah Spicer, Director of 1884 Wine & Tapas Bar, said: “Our wine nights are always very popular and successful and we expect this to be the best yet. Alejandro is known for delivering an entertaining and informative presentation and we know from our private tastings that the wines are exceptional.

“Our chefs have again come up with a very special menu and the combination of delightful dishes, wonderful wines and a very good price has already attracted quite a few bookings. The fact that Jessica is bringing some of her customers is a sign that we’re in for something special.”
