Magical moments were created for patients at Dove House Hospice when members of the cast of Hull New Theatre’s Aladdin flew in to grant Christmas wishes.
The Spirit of the Lamp, Wishee Washee, Princess Jasmine and Emperor Ming left the Cave of Wonders to meet people at the Day Therapy Session, which provides a variety of creative and therapeutic activities for those diagnosed with a non-curable life-limiting illness.
Festive cheer was spread across the Hospice by cast members Jake Canuso, who plays the Spirit of the Lamp, Wishee Washee Neil Hurst, Charlotte Barnes – resplendent as Princess Jasmine and Keith Higham as Emperor Ming took the time to meet and greet patients, carers and staff.
Jake said: “It’s great to be able to come out into the community and spread a bit of happiness to everyone here at the hospice. It’s important to us to try and put some smiles on the faces to those who are in a less fortunate situation than ourselves.
“We’re just here to do what we can and if this visit brightens up some of the patients’ days then we are more than happy.”
Dove House is an adult’s only hospice and the services are available to anyone over the age of eighteen years who has an illness, which can no longer be cured
The Day Therapy Session offers exercise classes, creative writing, arts and crafts and relaxation sessions amongst other activities to help patients with their treatment, whilst having fun.
Putting smiles on faces was the aim of the visit from the cast members, who made the journey to the Chamberlain Road – based hospice in between the twice daily shows.
Chris Noble, who is currently in the inpatient unit at the hospice said: “I just can’t believe it, what a lovely surprise. Myself and my husband are great fans of Jake Canuso so to meet him was amazing and a dream come true. My 6 grandchildren will be delighted to see Aladdin on Boxing Day and we can’t thank Hull Theatres and Dove House Hospice enough for enabling me to spend priceless time with my family.”
