City of Hull Street Angels, the dedicated volunteer group providing crucial support and safety to vulnerable people on the city’s streets, has been honoured with the King’s Award for Volunteers, the highest recognition for volunteer organisations in the UK.

Since its inception, City of Hull Street Angels has become an essential part of the city’s night-time economy support network, offering help to vulnerable people in need – from assisting with safe journeys home to the crucial role of diverting people from emergency services, allowing paramedics, police, and healthcare teams to focus their life-saving efforts on higher-risk emergencies.
This accolade, often described as the MBE for volunteer groups, celebrates outstanding contributions to community wellbeing and social support. The award highlights the tireless commitment of City of Hull Street Angels volunteers to ensuring safe, compassionate, and practical assistance during late-night hours across Hull.

His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Mr. Jim Dick, OBE, said, “I’m delighted that City of Hull Street Angels have been awarded the King’s Award for Voluntary Service. City of Hull Street Angels is one of 231 charities, community groups and social enterprises across the country to be honoured with this year’s King’s Award for Voluntary Service. The recognition highlights the remarkable difference volunteers make, serving quietly but with major impact, embodying community spirit and kindness.
The King’s Award for Voluntary Service celebrates exceptional contributions made by local volunteer organisations. Established in 2002 to mark the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, the award continues under His Majesty The King, with 2025 marking its third presentation in his name. The announcement of recipients coincides with The King’s Birthday on 14th November each year.
Representatives of City of Hull Street Angels will receive the award crystal and certificate from His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of the East Riding of Yorkshire, Mr. Jim Dick, OBE, Lord-Lieutenant of East Yorkshire in the coming months. In addition, two volunteers from will attend a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace in May and June 2026, along with other recipients of this year’s award.
