The Hull Bus Alliance has announced a discounted fare for young people to help them access the city’s Healthy Holidays programme during the Easter break.

The discount was agreed following a meeting with the Young People Parliament, which included representatives from the alliance as well as the city’s young leaders and the young mayor.
Concerns were raised that young people may be unable to access the events being provided through Healthy Holidays Hull due to cost-of-living pressures.
The alliance has listened to the feedback raised by young people and responded by delivering a one-time offer.
The discount will be applied in the form of a ‘Healthy Holidays Dayrider’ ticket for those under the age of 19 and will be priced at £2.50, providing unlimited all-day travel on both Stagecoach East Midlands and East Yorkshire services within the Hull city boundary.
The discount will run from Monday 30 March until Friday 10 April (inclusive) and will be available Monday to Friday only (including Good Friday and Easter Monday).
Healthy Holidays Hull has a packed programme this Easter, with an exciting range of completely free activities for school-aged children and young people in Hull. There is something to suit everyone, including dedicated SEND sessions, throughout the spring break.
The fun activities on offer include:
- ice skating
- go-karting sessions
- high ropes
- boxing
- cooking
- dance
- rugby
- multi sports
- arts and crafts
- musical theatre.
A full list of activities is live on the Healthy Holidays website and most need to be booked, so parents and carers are advised to check early to avoid missing out.
Kerry Ryan, head of transport and traffic management at Hull City Council, said: “As an alliance, we are acutely aware of the pressures being faced by our residents and communities when it comes to the cost of living.
“We are therefore delighted that, by working with our local operators, we are able to offer this discounted fare for young people in order to enable them to access free and fun activities across the city as part of Healthy Holidays Hull during Easter.”
Eunice Jogunosinmi, the city’s young mayor, said: “It is great that young people have been listened to and that they will receive this discount.
“I hope this promotion will be well publicised so that young people across the city get to know about it.”
Matt Cranwell, managing director at Stagecoach East Midlands, said: “Getting out and about is an essential way for young people to prioritise their physical and mental health by having great fun, enjoying time with their friends and family, and building their confidence, so we are very pleased to be part of this important scheme.
“The bus is always a great value way to get around, and, this Easter break, there has never been a better time to jump on board and enjoy everything that Hull has to offer.”
Stuart Fillingham, commercial director East Yorkshire Buses, said: “Supporting the communities we serve is at the heart of what we do. We’re pleased to be part of the Healthy Holidays Hull programme, helping remove some of the barriers to travel so more young people can take part in activities across the city this Easter.
“By offering discounted fares, we hope to make getting around Hull simpler and more accessible for families, ensuring no one misses out on the opportunities available during the school break.”
