Dove House are looking for local people to stride through their neighbourhoods with friends and family to raise vital funds for their local hospice between 26th September and 3rd October.
Their usual Starlight Stride – with hundreds of people gathering and walking together – can’t go ahead as normal, so the 2020 event has gone virtual! The charity is asking people to sign up with friends and family, find their own route and enjoy a walk under the stars.
Registration is £15 and every walker will receive an exclusive 2020 glow in the dark t-shirt and flashing accessory to wear as they stride, and everyone who raises sponsorship for Dove House will receive a medal. There will also be some surprises in the fundraising pack. Dove House are inviting every walker to the online launch party on Saturday 26th September on their Facebook page.
Anita Brien, Events Fundraiser at Dove House Hospice, said: “This year has been really difficult for Dove House as most of our fundraising events have been cancelled, but we’re so excited that the Starlight Stride is still going ahead, even though it will be a little different this year!
“Throughout lockdown local people have continued to support us with head shaves, garden marathons and cycle rides. We are so grateful to have the support of our local community and hope as many people as possible will get involved in the Starlight Stride!”
Many people use the Starlight Stride as a chance for families and friends to get together to remember and celebrate their loved ones who are no longer with us.
Dove House Hospice was looking at losing £15,000 a day when lockdown hit and all their events were cancelled, 36 charity shops were closed and their lottery couldn’t recruit new players. Events such as the Starlight Stride are so important not only to raise much needed funds but also to get the community together to support the hospice.
