This year’s exhibition is a very diverse showcase of young artists’ talent and interests. Artwork has been submitted by individuals, schools, and youth groups. Subjects include portraits of famous and historic characters, landscapes and architecture, wild animals and pets, abstracts and fantasy. The future of visual arts in the city is very promising indeed.
Judges have selected outstanding artworks from each of the three age categories, and winners will be announced on Saturday.
Councillor Marjorie Brabazon, chair of Hull Culture and Leisure, said: “The Junior Open provides a great opportunity for young artists to show work in their local gallery alongside established artists from the permanent collection. Encouraging creativity at all stages of life is vital to the Ferens.”
The work will be displayed in three age categories – 6 and under, 7 to 11 and 12 to 15.
The exhibition has been kindly sponsored by the Friends of the Ferens and The Hull and East Riding branch of The Art Society, who will provide prizes for the winning entries.
The Ferens Art Gallery is open to visitors 10am to 4.30pm Monday to Saturday, and 11am to 4pm on Sundays.
