Future Rugby League stars to feature in Aussie showdown

ASA’s rugby squad, 2019.

Over the past few years, Archbishop Sentamu Academy, East Hull, have developed a strong relationship with Mackay State High School, Queensland, Australia. The partnership has now seen four continuous years of exchange trips between the two schools.

Last year, Archbishop Sentamu Academy, with the help of sponsors and the surrounding community, sent 22 aspiring Rugby League players to Mackay on a three week long tour-of-a-lifetime.

This week sees the Australian school side return to Hull, still unbeaten, where they will face a Hull Schools Select side at Hull Kingston Rovers’ KCOM Craven Park.

ASA Rugby Scholarship students will represent Hull against their Australian counterparts, including: Max Day, Nathan Archer, Ethan Boxall, Tommy Day, Alfie Hordon and Captain, Travis O’loughlin – all of whom were part of last year’s exchange visit to Australia.

”It is great to see so many of our current and former students representing the academy and their city. To play against arguably the best players in the world is such an achievement in itself, and having the opportunity to test yourself against them physically is something they will all be looking forward to,” Pete Grayburn, Director of Rugby – Archbishop Sentamu Academy.
