Hanami Hull – cherry blossom time

‘In the cherry blossom’s shade there is no such thing as a stranger.’  — Kobayashi Issa   Japanese poet.

After a highly successful Nautic’Hull Alphabet project, #wemadethishull are following up with Hanami Hull, all about cherry blossom, a real feature of our city at this time of the year. Hanami is a Japanese word for ‘flower viewing’ and enjoying the beauty of the cherry blossom, or sakura, and is part of the cultural life of many Japanese people.  Our city is a sister city to Niigata where there are many trees which bear blossom.

The intention of the project is to make the cherry blossom joy last a little longer by creating blossoms in public places such as libraries, windows and doorways of people’s homes, cafes etc and in engaging in the making, people are brought together as strangers but are really friends who haven’t met yet.

Individuals, groups, organisations, care homes and youth groups are all welcome to participate either by themselves or by joining a session in a library or participating venue.
