Hedon Mixed Voice Choir calling for new members as they celebrate local performances

The Hedon Mixed Voice Choir, originally formed in Christmas 2008 as the Holderness Grange Choir, has been a much-loved part of the local community for over 15 years.

In 2018, to mark their 10th anniversary and to pay tribute to the people of Hedon and the surrounding area who had supported them from the very beginning, the group proudly adopted their current name.

The choir is now preparing for a busy season of performances. On Saturday 8th November, they will perform at the 200th Centenary of the Haven Arms in Hedon. The event will also feature the Hull Male Voice Choir, and both choirs will come together for a special finale. “To be invited as guests for such a milestone event is a real honour,” says Choir Director Gillian Hanslip.

Further concerts include:

22nd November, 2:00pm – St Augustine’s in Hedon, alongside Priory Park Singers

29th November, 2:00pm – Portobello Methodist Church

9th December, 7:30pm – Main Christmas Concert at Holderness Academy

The Hedon Mixed Voice Choir is now looking for new members, particularly sopranos and male voices, to join their friendly group. No previous experience is required, just a love of singing and a willingness to get involved. “We’re more than just a choir  we’re like a family,” Gillian explains. “We laugh together, work hard together, and share the joy of music with our audiences.”

Choir member Ellie Birch adds: “Being part of the choir has been such a rewarding experience. It’s a place where you can escape the stresses of daily life, do something you love, and make lasting friendships along the way. The buzz of performing together is something really special.”

The choir rehearses on Tuesday evenings at Holderness Grange in Hedon. Anyone interested in joining is warmly encouraged to get in touch in advance for more details.
