Hull City Council is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Paul Jackson, founder of The New Adelphi Club, at the age of 71.

Paul was a towering figure in Hull’s cultural and musical life. Through his passion, vision and unwavering commitment, The New Adelphi Club became far more than a music venue – it was, and is, a vital home for emerging talent, a hub for creativity.
Many of those artists, including The Housemartins, Pulp, Oasis, Radiohead and The Stone Roses, went on to become major stars and headliners around the world.
Over several decades, Paul helped to shape Hull’s identity as a city that champions grassroots music and independent spirit. His influence reached far beyond the venue’s walls, supporting generations of musicians and enriching the lives of audiences from across the region and beyond.
Paul’s dedication, warmth and belief in the power of live music left an indelible mark on the city. He will be remembered not only for his immense contribution to Hull’s cultural landscape, but also for the countless opportunities he created for others. He leaves behind a remarkable legacy.
Our thoughts are with Paul’s family, friends and all those whose lives he touched, during this difficult time.
