Hull Trains and Hull Truck Theatre are full steam ahead with The Railway Children this Christmas

Hull Truck Theatre is delighted to announce Hull Trains as sponsors of their family Christmas show, The Railway Children. The partnership reunites two award-winning, nationally recognised Hull companies, who are welcoming back audiences and passengers to share and enjoy experiences together this Christmas.

The Railway Children was originally scheduled for Christmas 2020 but postponed due to the pandemic, so it’s even more special than usual that families can come together for a magical, festive live performance. Both companies are committed to supporting and investing in Hull’s communities, believing that now, more than ever, everyone should have the opportunity to experience joy and entertainment at this time of year. The Railway Children will run from Friday 26 November – Sunday 2 January.

The partnership with Hull Trains will be a significant boost to Hull Truck Theatre’s ‘Give the Gift of Theatre’ scheme, enabling families and young people who wouldn’t otherwise be able to come to the theatre to attend, often for the first time. Hull Trains were sponsors of the theatre’s Christmas production of Peter Pan in 2019, when the scheme meant that over 350 children and young people from targeted Hull postcodes enjoyed the show without having to worry about the cost.

Andy Mellors, Managing Director Non-Franchised Businesses, FirstGroup Rail Division, said:

“As a long-time supporter of community initiatives, Hull Trains has been eager to get back involved with projects that unite the people of Hull. As this particular show features such an affectionate portrayal of railways, it seemed the perfect fit! Like the Truck Theatre, we have been welcoming customers back in increasing numbers and it’s great to see people spending time with their friends, family and loved ones. I’m sure this will prove a big hit with the young and old alike.”

Janthi Mills-Ward, Executive Director at Hull Truck Theatre, said:

“I am delighted that we are once again working with Hull Trains at Christmas. It is always a magical time at the theatre, but after we all missed so much last year, we want to make sure that The Railway Children is something really special. It’s a perfect partnership in that we are aligned with Hull Trains in our joint mission to support local communities and help our city to thrive.”
