Humberside Police Concert Band is recruiting new members

This year the Humberside Police Concert Band is celebrating its 160th anniversary and taking on new members.

The Humberside Police Concert Band formed way back in 1861 and was formally known as the Hull City Police Band before the amalgamation of previous forces under the Local Government Act 1972. It is believed that it is the oldest known Police Band in the country, if not the world.

The band is a ‘military style’ concert band, which means that it undertakes some parade work as well as concerts. The Humberside Police Concert Band has an excellent reputation both locally and nationally and (covid permitting) performs to a very high standard.

In a normal year, the band would undertake between 20 and 25 engagements across the Humberside Police area, such as Remembrance Parades, Pride Events and other concerts throughout the year. Members rehearse in their own bandroom at Sensor House in Beverley on Thursday evenings (between 7:30 and 9pm) and Sunday mornings between 10:30am and 12noon (normally 10:30am to 1pm).

Whist undertaking engagements, the band members also collect money for charity. Until the end of 2023, the band has chosen to support two local organisations, Dove House Hospice in Hull and Lindsey Lodge Hospice in Scunthorpe.

The Humberside Police Concert Band currently has a number of openings for Brass, Woodwind and Percussion players of ABRSM Grade 5 standard and above. People do not need to be a Police Officer or a civilian member of staff to join.
