JUST ONE Tree Day: UK schools join global effort to plant trees

Thousands of UK pupils will join children across the world for JUST ONE Tree Day on Friday 17th October 2025 to tackle climate change and biodiversity loss.

From pre-schools to colleges, thousands of pupils will spend a day learning about how to save and restore our planet using the free educational resource packs provided. Every pound raised plants a tree in areas hit hardest by deforestation.

Since launching in 2019, over 240,000 children from 17 countries have taken part, planting more than 380,000 trees in Africa, Asia & South America – restoring vital habitats, supporting local communities and removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Why JUST ONE Tree Day matters

JUST ONE Tree Day is the flagship event of British not-for-profit JUST ONE Tree, a proud partner of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The day inspires children and young people to see how their individual actions make a difference in tackling climate change and biodiversity loss.

Schools that sign up receive free curriculum-linked teaching resources for all ages, empowering students to learn about the planet while taking tangible action to protect it.

JUST ONE Tree founder, Amanda Bronkhorst, said: “Many young people struggle with climate anxiety, but JUST ONE Tree Day shows them that small actions when multiplied can have a huge impact. Together, we’ve already planted over 380,000 trees – and we’re just getting started.”

Portsmouth High School in Hampshire said: “Pupils were helped to feel empowered to take control of their futures and to make it greener.”
