Doreen’s, a Hull-based charity, is known for bringing joy to children across the community each year with their Easter campaign. Mother-daughter duo Sue and Ashleigh, co-founders of the charity, have delivered a record-breaking 2,900 Easter eggs to local schools this year.

This initiative, which has become a much-loved tradition for the charity over the past six years, aims to ensure that children in the area enjoy the simple pleasure of receiving an Easter treat. Last year, the charity distributed 2,420 Easter eggs, a number that has increased by almost 20% this year. The charity has received generous support from Hull City Council and the West Carr Councillors, as well as donations from retail giant B&M and another local charity, Society of M.I.C.E.
The team at Doreen’s say the growth of donations reflects the strong spirit of giving within the community, particularly at challenging times, with many families still struggling due to the cost-of-living crisis. Teachers and staff have praised the initiative, noting the positive impact it has on their pupils’ well-being and sense of inclusion. As the campaign continues to grow each year, the charity hopes to expand its reach even further in the future, with ambitions to support more schools and families.
Co-Founder Ashleigh said: “The rising cost of living has made it difficult for some families to enjoy the simple pleasures. We’re proud to be able to provide a small moment of joy for children who might otherwise miss out. Sharing these treats with the local community helps bring smiles to children and reminds families we’re here to support them.”

A spokesperson from North Point Shopping Centre added: “We are incredibly proud to have Doreen’s as part of our centre’s community. The dedication and care that goes into the Easter egg campaign each year is truly inspiring, and it’s wonderful to see how these efforts bring a bit of joy and support to families in our local area who need it most.”
‘Delivering our Range of Everyday Essential Needs’, Doreen’s provides support to struggling families within the area, as well as vulnerable groups such as victims of domestic violence. They officially opened the doors to their new Hub at North Point Shopping Centre in January. The Hub provides an inclusive space for the community and local groups to enjoy a coffee and catch up, a charity shop to help raise vital funds, and a place for the charity to put together their care packages and stock their food bank.
