Local Charity offers free support for students moving to secondary school

Dyslexia Sparks is offering free guidance to parents in the region to help support children with their move to secondary school this year.

A free webinar for parents – Supporting Your Child’s Transition from Primary to Secondary School, Thursday 24th June, 6-7pm – is being offered by the charity for any parents/carers wanting to gain an understanding of how to support their child’s transition to secondary school.

The session will include details of how to help students prepare for their move from primary school and get a head start on managing the transition to secondary school.

Jane Craig, Founding Director, Dyslexia Sparks, said: “Moving to secondary school can be daunting at the best of times. Parents of course want to support their child with their move to high school but may be unsure what they can to do help.  After the turbulent times of this year and last, we wanted to provide additional support to guide parents and students through the significant change of moving to secondary school – and help families feel prepared.”

Led by Dyslexia Sparks’ Senior Specialist Teacher and Assessor, Sam Buttle, the webinar will include:

— How parents can support their child with the transition leading up to September

–The practicalities of a move to high school and how parents can support with this

–Tips to help students with their organisational skills

The webinar will be useful to all parents/carers wanting to support their child with their transition to secondary school and will also include information particularly of relevance to parents/carers of dyslexic children.

Places are free but limited and must be booked in advance to receive the online meeting link. For further details and to book, please visit the Eventbrite page or contact Dyslexia Sparks directly at nicola.markham@dyslexia-sparks.org.uk
