Skirlaugh Garden & Aquatic Centre are hosting an event this weekend to help the homeless in Hull.
Customers and staff will be packing up shoe boxes with toiletries, warm clothes and food to help make someone’s life a little easier this Christmas. Staff will be teaming up with customers to pack shoe boxes with food and gifts. The Christmas boxes will be handed out by Hull Homeless Outreach at their annual Christmas party.
Each box will also include a Christmas card and children are being encouraged to attend the event to help write and decorate the cards with festive sentiments. Every card will remind someone in need that they are not alone and spread some Christmas cheer to those who need it most.
As the weather turns colder, life for the homeless community only gets harder. While people are busy Christmas shopping and tucking into turkey dinners, there are many who wish only for warm, dry clothing.
Vanston Cook, Managing Director, says: “We are very excited and proud to be launching our 2019 Christmas with an event to support the homeless in Hull. Christmas is all about spreading happiness and helping those in need. The response from our staff and customers to the event has been heart-warming, everybody is keen to come together and help make a difference.
“Donations of food, toiletries, hats and gloves are all gratefully received and we thank everyone who has already contributed. Most of all though, we need customers to come along at the weekend and help us wrap and pack the boxes, and help write festive messages in our Christmas cards to really make someone smile.”
Everyone is welcome on Saturday 23rd November and Sunday 24th November to visit Skirlaugh Garden and Aquatic Centre to help them with the event. This is the first weekend in their 12 Days of Christmas event, a series of weekends jam-packed with festive family fun in the build up to Christmas.
