L’Oréal Colour Trophy Future Talent Award success for Cottingham-based apprentice Amy Griffin

Amy, with fantastic support from the team at Hays Salon, has worked tirelessly over the last few months to not only keep up to date with her training and maintain a very busy column in the salon, but to also produce the award-winning look for the competition.

The prestigious award, which is being presented at a glittering evening of celebration and hair artistry at the UK Grand Final in the iconic Battersea Evolution in London on Sunday 26 June, needed Amy to create a well-executed, inspirational, and modern colour look which was complemented by a beautiful style, finish and total look taking inspiration from upcoming trends.

Amy approached the challenge in a methodical way, starting out by researching fashion and hair trends, then bringing all her ideas together to create a mood board, making a decision on the final look and planning how it would work on a model and what colours would work best.

But as with all great plans things changed at the last minute, as Amy describes: “I had originally wanted to do a wave on my model but on the day of the photoshoot it wasn’t quite working, so I made the decision to restyle it straight and I’m much happier with the results.”

Amy wanted the final look to create an image that was striking, yet wearable. Taking inspiration from ’90s hair trends using a combination of contrasting colour palettes, it was this look that was judged by a panel of industry experts and led to her being chosen as one of only five winners from across the UK.

Amy, who was really pleased to have received such a glowing commendation, said: “Seeing my idea come to life and the full process from start to finish was a big achievement so early on in my hairdressing career, so to win was the cherry on the cake.”

This was reflected by the management at Hays Salon when Alex the co-owner and creative director commented: “Amy has been incredibly dedicated to her apprenticeship and her training in the salon. she is proof that hard work pays off as she is already running a full column. We believe Amy has a bright career ahead of her. We couldn’t be more proud of Amy for winning the L’Oréal Future Talent Award as it couldn’t have gone to a more deserving person.”

Saks Apprenticeships, Amy’s apprenticeship training provider, was equally as proud, saying: “We are delighted at the dedication and determination shown by Amy to produce such a stunning look. We are proud to be associated with the fantastic team at Hays Salon and to be able to support Amy and their other apprentices through their apprenticeships. They are very supportive of their apprentices, focussing on constant training and development, and we are looking forward to continuing to work with them to help their apprentices succeed in their careers.”
