A group of leading businesses have united behind a powerful drive to establish the Humber as a leader in meeting the critical challenge of global climate change.
The partners have become the latest organisations to pledge their support for Marketing Humber and its work to position the region as a world leader in the transition to low-carbon economies.
As part of an ambitious new strategy, the Humber’s place marketing agency has joined with the University of Hull to launch a powerful, long-term campaign, called The Waterline, to develop new economic models that deliver environmental sustainability and economic growth through decarbonisation.
The campaign recognises that the Humber is among the coastal regions around the world listed as at high risk due to rising sea levels and increasing flood threat caused by climate change. It also builds on the Humber’s status as a major industrial cluster and ever-growing reputation as the UK’s leading centre for renewable energy generation.
Now more leading employers have come together as Marketing Humber Major Partners and will support the pioneering strategy to put the Humber on the global map.
They joined with other business representatives for a launch event and lunch at the DoubleTree by Hilton hotel in Hull when they heard how they could support Marketing Humber to deliver on its ambitions.
Marketing Humber Chair Andy Parkinson told the partners the decarbonisation drive also presented a huge economic opportunity for the Humber.
“This is about marketing the Humber in a very different way and uniting people and organisations behind the climate challenge,” he said.
“We have a huge opportunity in the Humber because there’s a gold rush for technology investment to develop solutions that decarbonise the world. We are the perfect living lab for decarbonisation – why can’t the Humber be a low-carbon innovation zone.”
