New Wildlife Watch Trail launches in Capability Brown Parkland at Burton Constable

Burton Constable has introduced a new wildlife walk across its historic Capability Brown parkland, giving visitors of all ages the opportunity to look more closely at the rich variety of wildlife found throughout the landscape.

The trail was initiated by Wildlife and Parkland Officer Dave Nassau and developed collaboratively with Marketing Executive Holly McLeod and Curator Sarah Burton. It features 18 newly installed Wildlife Watch Posts positioned at key locations throughout the parkland. Each post contains a pair of binoculars, securely housed within a wooden box, allowing visitors to observe wildlife from carefully chosen vantage points.

The posts are located in areas where visitors may spot familiar British bird species, larger mammals such as deer and foxes, and activity around Burton Constable’s honeybee hives. Designed to be enjoyed by both adults and children, the Wildlife Watch Posts create an informal, self-guided trail that encourages curiosity, exploration, and a greater awareness of the natural environment within the historic landscape.

Wildlife and Parkland Officer Dave Nassau said: “As someone who works in the parkland every day, I see just how much wildlife we have here. I wanted visitors to have that same opportunity, to stop, look more closely, and appreciate what’s living in the landscape around them.”

The Wildlife Watch Posts have been generously funded by the Friends of Burton Constable, whose ongoing fundraising supports conservation, restoration projects, and the creation of new visitor experiences across the Hall and parkland.

Lynn Turner, Chair of the Friends of Burton Constable, and Jan Ashdown, Secretary of the Friends of Burton Constable, said: “We are pleased to endorse this project, which we hope will encourage visitors to discover the incredible wildlife the parkland attracts. It’s a welcome addition to the parkland.”

All 18 Wildlife Watch Posts are now in place and ready for visitors to explore.

The new trail offers an engaging way to experience Burton Constable’s Capability Brown parkland, combining heritage, wildlife and outdoor discovery for visitors of all ages.
