Nominations opened for inaugural Volunteer Awards for Humber Region

The Humber region Volunteer Awards 2019

Volunteers do the most amazing things across the U.K and here in the Humber Region. Now organisations who benefit from volunteers have an opportunity to celebrate their volunteers with an inaugural Volunteer Awards for the Humber Region announced by the HEY Smile Foundation.

The financial value of Volunteering in the U.K in 2018 was a staggering £22.6n, approximately 1.2% of GDP. However the true value is the work undertaken by these volunteers and the skills, time and dedication which impacts so greatly on people within our communities.

In Hull, The U.K City of Culture volunteers not only impacted on the region, but aided the City to gain further national recognition. Across the Humber volunteers are a driving force in thousands of weekly activities, care, training, safety, awareness and vitally being on hand to provide time, comfort and reassurance to many in our region at a time of most vulnerability.

The inaugural Volunteer Awards, taking place in October will be a special event that celebrates the contributions of volunteers throughout the Humber region, saying thank you to all those who give their time to benefit others.

The event will take place at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Hull in the form of a celebratory Sparkling Afternoon Tea awards ceremony. There will be 10 awards plus a special Outstanding Volunteer of the Year Award.

Andrew Barber, Chief Executive of HEY Smile Foundation said:  “There’s an incredible amount of volunteering that takes place across Hull, East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire but no one organisation currently celebrates the great work that they do to benefit our communities. Some organisations will of course celebrate their volunteering achievements internally, but we want to bring all this together under one roof and tell the world how great our region’s volunteers. We hope this event will be the start of something extremely special annually which is owned by the community, not just one organisation.”

The Volunteer Awards 2019 are supported by leading local private, public and voluntary sector organisations however further opportunities for organisations to engage in the event and contribute to making it a very special occasion for those who attend is still available.

Anyone who wishes to engage in the awards other than putting forward a nomination can contact HEY Smile Foundation on  01482 590270 or email an@heysmilefoundation.org.

Launching during Volunteers Week 2019 (1st-7th June), nominations are now being accepted via http://heysmilefoundation.org/2019/05/31/nominations-open-for-volunteer-awards-2019/
