Northern Irish Rockers Ash are heading to North Point Shopping Centre

Ash are heading to North Point Shopping Centre on Friday May 31 as part of the Back to Ours half-term festival.

They announced their half-term festival programme last week, but the team behind Back to Ours always have a little something up their sleeves; this time it’s an announcement for the ever-popular gig nights at North Point Shopping Centre.

Joining the impressive alumni of Pigeon Detectives, Black Grape, Rick Witter and Paul Banks: Shed Seven (Acoustic), Carl Barat, Reverend and the Makers, The Coral, Dodgy and Chris Helme now come Northern Irish Rockers Ash, famed for hits such as Girl from Mars, Kung Fu, and the Ivor Novello-winning Shining Light, who’ll be playing at North Point on Friday May 31.

Originally formed back in 1992 after picking the first short word from the dictionary they liked the sound of, Ash have become famed for their incredible live, high-energy performances. They’ve made history at Glastonbury – being the first band to headline twice after Steve Winwood pulled out at the last minute – headlined Reading festival in 2001, and racked up a second number one album (Free All Angels), a Top 10 album (Nu-Clear Sounds) and six more Top 30 singles in between.

May 31 sees the release their 7” singles box set, compiled and curated by the band themselves. Featuring Clones on vinyl for the first time, as well as all the hit singles from 1994-2004, it’s set to become a must have for music fans.

Back to Ours Director Louise Yates commented:

‘Ash are a band you just have to see live – they’re incredible.

‘They’re always talked about as one of the UK’s best-loved bands, and there’s a pretty good reason for that. There’ll be hit after hit, loads of energy, and some classic indie sing-alongs to get your weekend off to a good start.

‘We’re looking forward working with Under the Influence to bring another packed night to Bransholme.’

The announcement caps off a packed programme of events for Back to Ours, bringing theatre, circus, performance, drama and Secret Gigs to venues throughout the city from May 24-June 1. The full line-up can be viewed over at, and follow the team on Facebook, twitter and Instagram @BTOHull for all the up to date information.

Snap your tickets for Ash up at £10, available from Saturday 4 May online at, Hull Truck Theatre Box Office, and in person with cash from The Living Room, North Point Shopping Centre.
