A pair of construction projects in East Yorkshire that will provide much needed sheltered housing for local people have topped out within days of each other.
The highest point of the buildings have been reached, and the roof structures are now complete at the two developments in Anlaby and Driffield, that are known as Moat Hill and Deira Court respectively.
Both projects are being built by Yorkshire construction firm, Hobson & Porter, on behalf of the Asset Strategy team and Housing Revenue Account (HRA) at East Riding of Yorkshire Council, procured via the YORbuild framework.
They will both feature a mixture of one-and-two-bedroom apartments with generous open-plan layouts. The homes will be adaptable to meet residents’ needs as they age, thereby helping them to live independently for longer.
Additionally, there will be a communal residents’ lounge for social activities, and each scheme will be equipped with the latest digital telecare equipment connected to the Council’s ‘Lifeline’ support service.
East Riding of Yorkshire Council has committed £25.7 million to demolish and rebuild both sites, which includes a £7.8 million grant from Homes England, the Government’s Housing and Regeneration Agency.
Councillor Michael Lee, East Riding of Yorkshire cabinet member for housing and infrastructure said: “We are dedicated to improving the supply and quality of our housing stock, including in sheltered housing projects. We look forward to welcoming new residents to their homes in due course.”

Both schemes delivered via the YORbuild framework include social value delivery plans via the YOR4Good fund and YORbuild Employment & Skills framework. This means both schemes are benefitting their local communities by delivering apprenticeships, local employment, school engagement and support for local community groups and charity projects.
