Dinostar, Hull’s dinosaur experience, will welcome visitors again from Saturday 18th July after being closed during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown.

The museum, based on Humber Street in the Fruit Market, features genuine and replica dinosaur fossils as well as purpose-built interactive exhibits.

As part of Dinostar’s reopening plans, the attraction has been awarded the Covid-19 ‘We’re Good to Go’ industry standard certification by Visit England. The award recognises the measures visitor attractions have put in place to ensure cleanliness and social distancing, following government guidelines.

Measures implemented at Dinostar include:

  • Reduced exhibition capacity, though there is no need to book in advance
  • Hand sanitiser stations around the museum
  • Two-metre footprint trail to help with social distancing
  • One-way routes in some areas to help households keep apart
  • Removal of some touch-intensive interactive exhibits
  • Additional cleaning in high contact areas
  • Contactless payments for admissions and gift shop purchases

Steve Plater, Dinostar owner, said: “We have worked hard to put in place all the required safety measures set out in the guidelines to allow visitors to enjoy their usual Dinostar experience while staying safe.

“We encourage all visitors to use the hand sanitiser stations situated throughout the exhibition and to give fellow visitors plenty of space, staying the required two metres apart from other households.”

Museums have been able to reopen since 4th July, but Dinostar took the decision to stay closed for longer to ensure the guidelines could be fully implemented and to gain industry advice on how to reopen safely.

Steve continued: “We are delighted we are now able to open and welcome back visitors during the school summer holiday, but were only prepared to do this once we were satisfied with the safety measures implemented.”

Beyond the measures described, the closure during lockdown has allowed the museum to introduce new and enhanced exhibits, further improving the popular attraction.

Dinostar will be open every day for the school summer holidays from Saturday 18th July to Sunday 6thSeptember, 11am to 5pm each day.
